Volgens dokter Arne Björnberg, onderzoeksdirecteur bij de EHCI is België "opvallend traag bij het aanbieden van nieuwe medicijnen aan de consumenten van zijn gezondheidszorg. Deze systematische vertraging, die vaak langer dan een jaar duurt, lijkt een invloed te hebben op de kwaliteit van de zorg en heeft een impact op de overleving van Belgische patiënten." Björnberg noemt het eveneens opvallend dat "het rapporteren van gegevens over de Belgische gezondheidszorg aan internationale instellingen bijna tien jaar achteroploopt".
