Een veel gebruikte
indicatie van het uithoudingsvermogen is de maximale zuurstofopname, de
VO2max. De zuurstofopname van een persoon wordt vaak aangeduid
met VO2 en heeft als eenheid vaak liter per minuut of ml per
kilogram per minuut. Het menselijk lichaam kan nauwelijks zuurstof opslaan,
dus de zuurstofopname is ongeveer gelijk aan het verbruik van zuurstof in
de spieren en andere organen.

De mate waarin
